The University Language Planning and Development Office has embarked on a university-wide campaign to create awareness about the programmes it offers.
More specifically, the campaign aims to inform the University community about the University’s language policy and plan. The office has a variety of programmes, such as:
- Terminology Development
- Availability and utilisation of isiZulu Term Bank
- Translation Services
- Application of HLT’s (Zulu Lexicon, IsiZulu National Corpus and a Spellchecker
This campaign started at the Westville campus on 18 May 2018 and proceeded to Howard College on 25 May 2018. The campaign proved to be a success as it was well received by staff and students at both campuses.
The appreciation of programmes offered by the office brought back hope and inspired the office to continue with its mandate. More campaigns are to unfold in the next semester. University students and staff appreciated the work that was presented, with most of them downloading the HLTs, the Zulu Lexicon in particular.
