UKZN Sociologist Recognised as a KZN Woman of Wonder

Clinical Sociologist Dr Mariam Seedat-Khan from the School of Social Sciences, was recently honoured as one of the 50 KZN Women of Wonder. This is the second-year in which 50 inspiring women from KwaZulu-Natal are honoured, by Panache Promotions and Events, for making a difference in the lives of others and for being agents of change in society.

Seedat-Khan was presented with the award during a glitzy ceremony at Sibaya Casino’s Izulu Theatre. ‘I am both humbled and honoured to be the recipient of this award. Sadly, there are millions of women across our planet still living in poverty, struggling to receive access to quality healthcare education and human rights,’ she said. ‘I want to dedicate this award to those courageous women who came before us, who have broken barriers, defied traditions, shattered glass ceilings and who help us make the world a better place.’

The Chief Executive Officer of Panache, Mrs Farzana Mayet congratulated all the Women of Wonder award recipients saying, ‘The Women of Wonder Awards give recognition to not only CEOs and MDs, but also to ordinary women who make an impact in society on an ongoing basis. We thank them for all that they do.’

Other award recipients were author Mrs Vanessa Govender-Tedder; Banting, healthy living expert and community activist Mrs Omi Nair and healthcare practitioner Dr Raeesa Aboobaker.
