Successful External Review for Criminology and Forensic Studies Major

A review of the undergraduate major, Criminology and Forensic Studies in the School of Applied Human Sciences (SAHS) was completed successfully over a four-day period on UKZN’s Howard College campus.

The review of the major is an institutional quality assurance process undertaken to evaluate all activities involved in curriculum renewal, management and outcomes of a selected major.

‘The purpose of an external quality review is to provide a systematic means of assuring continuous improvement in the provision of services to staff and students and meeting stakeholders’ expectations,’ said Criminology lecturer Professor Shanta Balgobind-Singh. ‘It is to commend good practice and highlight aspects that require improvement to enhance the quality of teaching and learning.’

Involved in the review were meetings and interviews with a variety of internal and external stakeholders and site visits to both the Howard and Pietermaritzburg campuses with the final day set aside for recall sessions and consolidation of the panel deliberations.

A celebratory tea was held in the School in order to thank both professional and academic staff for working as a team to ensure the successful undertaking and completion of the review process.
