CLMS Professors on UKZN Top Researchers List
Academics in the College of Law and Management Studies (CLMS), Professors Stephen Mutula and Paul-Francois Muzindutsi are featured in the University’s Top 30 researcher rankings for 2018.
The Top 30 comprise of researchers who have accumulated the most author units for publications in Department of Higher Education and Training accredited, peer-reviewed journals.
Mutula, the Acting Dean and Head of the School of Management, IT and Governance is a National Research Foundation rated scholar and has been awarded excellence awards by Emerald Publishing House (UK) (seven awards), the Fiek Foundation (Germany) for spearheading research and integration of information ethics in the Higher Education curriculum in Africa, top researcher of the year while working at the University of Botswana (in 2005 and 2007, respectively), and the International Federation of Library Associations (IFLA) for developing a novel model to promote information literacy competencies among first-year university students (2007). He has also published five books.
Commenting on the achievement he said, ‘I owe this award to my colleagues and students with whom I have continually worked. They inspire my work.’
Mutula has published in several international and national accredited journals including the African Journal of Information Systems; International Journal of Information Management; Online Information Review; International Journal of Innovation in the Digital Economy; International Journal of e-Adoption; Program: Electronic Library and Information Systems; The Electronic Library; South African Journal of Information Management; International Journal of Education Development in Africa; Journal of African Elections; and the Malaysian Journal of Library and Information Sciences.
Muzindutsi who appears on the list for the third consecutive year, is an Associate Professor of Finance in the School of Accounting, Economics and Finance. He is also placed third in the list of Top 10 Young Published Researchers. His awards include an Emerging Researchers Award in 2013 and a Research Excellence Award in 2015 (with North West University).
‘I was surprised and encouraged by being recognised among the Top 30 researchers in the whole of UKZN. It means that my hard work is being acknowledged and I am inspired to achieve even greater heights,’ said Muzindutsi.
In 2018, Muzindutsi published articles in the following internationally and locally accredited journals: International Journal of Economic Policy in Emerging Economies (IJEPEE); International Journal of Monetary Economics and Finance; Frontiers in Finance and Economics; and the International Journal of Economics and Finance Studies.
He is currently working on a research project on the interaction between financial markets and various financial risk factors in emerging and developing markets with the aim of developing financial model(s) that can assist in pricing the disaggregated components of country risk and behavioural risk factors that are not included in traditional asset pricing models.
