Students enjoy an International Sports Day on the Pietermaritzburg campus.Sports Day Promotes Unity
The International Student Office hosted a Sports Day on the Pietermaritzburg campus, focusing on giving international students an opportunity to socialise and interact with one another and learn about their different cultures and backgrounds.
The initiative was presented and planned by international postgraduate student Mr Steve Kyalangalilwa, who promotes embracing culture and diversity through sports activities. ‘My vision was for participants to learn that regardless of diversities, language barriers and differences, teamwork and tolerance are key for a united and prosperous society,’ said Kyalangalilwa.
Ms Zanele Hlophe of Student Governance, Leadership and Development (SGLD) welcomed everyone and officially opened the day.
Apart from a variety of sports events there was a braai and good music to enjoy with great company. Sporting events included soccer, tennis, touch rugby, a 100m running race and a tug of war contest.
