Music Student Behind Fashion Meets Jazz Show
Music student Ms Nomfundo Cele partnered with Okwabantu Events to host the Fashion Meets Jazz show - a lifestyle event incorporating live jazz music and a fashion showcase - at the Olympus night club in Durban.
‘My vision was to give local jazz artists and fashion designers a joint platform to showcase their talents and to contribute to the growth of art in and around Durban,’ said Cele, who is not only a Jazz student, but also holds a Diploma in Fashion Design.
She believes that the show created a networking space for artists to share their ideas and help each other grow in the music and fashion industries.
The jazz line-up included performances by vocalists Chloe Clark and Sne Zungu, while the fashion showcase featured items from streetwear designer Mandisi Dladla of Broke Clothing, Thobeka Vilakazi of Inkosazana Clothing, Scelo Ngcobo of Ds Clothing, Nokwanda Ngcobo of 8th Wanda, Miles Lutuli of Lutuleigh and Ngcebo Zungu of Kingz Clothing.
Said Cele: ‘We plan to grow this event to make it as big as the Vodacom Durban July so we need Durban people to see this project as their very own and support it all the way. Fashion Meets Jazz is more than just an event - it’s a lifestyle that Durban will grow to love and look forward to.’
The next Fashion Meets Jazz showcase is scheduled for later this year.
