Finance Students Impress at Case Study Presentation
Third-year Finance students impressed prospective employers, Proctor and Gamble (P&G), in their presentations of case studies on one of the company’s new consumer products.
The case study presentation is a practical element of the finance module course work in which students are given 10 minutes to present to a panel who judges them on visuals, time management, subject knowledge and presentation skills.
This year, 24 groups competed and were tasked with assessing the launch of Vicks Honey and Ginger Cough Syrup in the South African market.
Team Synergy’s impressive presentation earned the students top position.
‘Through our presentation, we showed we researched the effect the product will have on the market and are glad that our efforts paid off. We are thrilled that we won, it was really a surprise,’ said group member, Ms Shivani Moodley.
‘This task provided us with a great practical insight into what happens in the industry. Thanks to P&G for the amazing opportunity.’
Judges were UKZN finance lecturers Ms Shelley Donnelly and Ms Ailie Charteris as well as UKZN alumnus and P&G’s Brand Financial Analyst Ms Nicole Naidoo.
P&G’s Human Resources Associate Manager Ms Khahliso Lekalakala said they were really impressed by the high quality of the presentations.
‘The groups put in a lot of effort and the panel was hard pressed to find an overall winner. However, it was the winning team’s research and ability to showcase the products effect on the market place that earned them victory. As the Discipline of Finance in the School of Accounting, Economics and Finance, we really value this long-standing association with Proctor and Gamble, which began more than a decade ago. We look forward to growing it in future,’ said Donnelley.
