Dialogue on Femicide in Higher Education Institutions

Student Dynamics sponsored by the eThekwini Municipality Youth Office recently hosted a dialogue on Femicide in institutions of higher learning.

The dialogue, held at Howard College, sought to promote engagement and to find implementable programmes that can help combat the violation of women’s rights. The event was a major success as it provided a platform for ideas and encouraged positive engagement. The Department of Social Development facilitated the dialogue and guided the participants.

The event was attended by participants from various institutions such as UKZN, Mangosuthu University of Technology and the Durban University of Technology, as well as representatives of NGOs such as loveLife, Isibani Sezwe and DramAidE. An implementation plan was thus drawn up and handed over to the various SRC bodies in order to have constant programmes to address this particular social ill.
