UKZN Students Jet Off to India on Leadership Programme
Two UKZN postgraduate students recently jetted off to India where they will represent UKZN in a youth leadership programme that will broaden their horizons.
Zoleka Shangase, BA Honours student, and Zamokuhle Manqele, former UKZN SRC president at Howard campus who is currently registered for a Master’s degree in Media and Cultural Studies, are currently at the Maharishi Markandeshwar University, Mullana, India, where they will participate in a youth leadership programme from 18 June 2018 to 07 July 2018.
The programme brings together an eclectic mix of students from all over the world, providing them a forum for the meaningful exchange of culture and ideas. Through networking and community-building activities, students attending the programme experience meaningful interactions with student leaders from a variety of different colleges and universities. Students not only gain understanding of leadership techniques, teamwork and effective communication, but also experience Indian culture.
For Shangase, this is an exciting opportunity and huge responsibility as she will be representing UKZN amongst many students from influential universities. ‘I feel honoured and look forward to the cultural experience of visiting India for the very first-time’, she said just before her trip. In the same light, Manqele said it meant a lot for him to be given the opportunity but mostly, it brought a sense of confidence and responsibility to him as a student and representative of UKZN. He also wanted to take the opportunity to put UKZN on the map and create as many networks as he can possible for his career in leadership.
Miss Nombuso Mtshali from the UKZN International Student Office said she has confidence in both the students and was sure that they will fly the UKZN flag high in India.
