An Inspirational Aspiring Statistician
Aspiring statistician Mr Azande Leon Langa’s love of numbers and solving mathematical problems inspired him to study towards a Bachelor of Science in Applied Mathematics and Statistics.
Langa’s struggle to find money for food, rent and books, made it difficult for him to focus on his studies. However, he did not let that stop him as he is currently doing his Honours in Statistics.
Graduating with an undergraduate degree was his greatest achievement and put him a step closer to achieving his life goals and the career he has always dreamed about.
Langa wishes to be a beacon of light to others. He advised undergraduate students to manage their time properly as well as to study hard.
He attributed his success to hard work and perseverance in striving to do his best. While most people recall their fondest childhood memory was receiving a toy or going on vacation, for Langa it was receiving new clothes to wear on Christmas day. He therefore plans to one day start a business and build a house for his family.
When he is not crunching numbers Langa enjoys watching his favourite series, the Big Bang Theory or soccer. In the words of Salvador Dali ‘intelligence without ambition is a bird without wings.’ Langa is definitely a bird with wings and only the sky is the limit.
