Scholarship Motivates Recipient to Excel Academically
The constant worry about not being able to afford tuition fees led to Bachelor of Commerce in Accounting student, Ms Siphiwokuhle Sibiya not enjoying her first semester at university. However, all that is in the past now thanks to the Frene Ginwala Scholarship which has lifted the burden of outstanding fees.
‘I have been struggling with my studies because I did not have the prescribed books and I did not receive my first semester results due to outstanding fees and so receiving the Frene Ginwala Scholarship means my financial worries are now over and I can focus on my studies,’said Sibiya.
Sibiya says that as difficult as her first semester has been, she has kept her eye on the prize and forging ahead towards realising her dream of becoming a Chartered Accountant. Matriculating in 2016 from Tholokuhle High School in Richards Bay with seven distinctions which she says was a life-changing moment for her.
‘Seven distinctions is no child’s play. I worked very hard and had sleepless nights because I knew exactly what I wanted; to leave a mark for myself’, said Sibiya.
Sibiya says that receiving the Frene Ginwala Scholarship means that her efforts are finally being recognised and her hard work is paying off.
‘Receiving the scholarship has encouraged me to excel in my studies in order to hopefully receive more awards like this in future but most importantly to pave the way to reaching my ultimate dream’, she said.
Sibiya’s future plans are set solely on completing her qualification through UKZN and being the most sought after chartered accountant in South Africa.
‘I plan to continue studying at UKZN because it is my university of choice, until I become a qualified chartered accountant and a successful businesswoman.’
