Pius Langa Scholarship brings Financial Relief for BCom Student
As the youngest of three siblings, the Pius Langa scholarship recipient and Bachelor of Commerce student Mr Sriram Maharaj is grateful that the scholarship will bring some financial relief to his parents.
‘Although my family is not destitute, there are three children that need tuition fees to be paid for by my parents and that takes its toll,’ said Maharaj.
The scholarship is awarded to students who were ranked in the top 10 in the province by the KwaZulu-Natal Provincial Education Department NSC examinations, or top nationally in the IEB matriculation examinations in 2016.
The bright spark who was the Dux in his matric year at Westville Boys High aspires to be a Chartered Accountant and is putting in the hard work and dedication necessary to achieve his career goals.
‘Accounting has always been a passion of mine since childhood. I find the entire area of study to be most intriguing and fascinating as I have always wanted to be involved in business and finance. This scholarship makes me feel empowered and independent as my personal achievements and hard work sponsor my education rather than being funded by my parents. I plan to graduate as a chartered accountant and get a steady job with a prestigious firm,’ he said.
