New Staff Welcomed into College of Agriculture, Engineering and Science
The College of Agriculture, Engineering and Science (CAES) welcomed and introduced new staff at induction functions held recently on the Westville and Pietermaritzburg campuses.
The functions were organised for those staff who had joined the College during the last 12 months with the purpose being to not only make them feel welcome but also to provide them with useful information about College processes and services.
After being formally welcomed by Acting Deputy Vice-Chancellor and Head of College, Professor Deo Jaganyi, College Director of Professional Services, Professor Kevin Kirkman, delivered an informative presentation on the structure and composition of the College as well as on issues pertaining to undergraduate and postgraduate administration.
Mrs Shereen Balkisson told the gathering about human resources benefits and processes and who to contact for help; while Mrs Shelley Barnsley spoke on student support services available in the College.
The new staff were treated to a fine lunch and went home with a useful goody bag containing University and College publications, a CD with relevant policy documents and forms, and a gift sponsored by the College.
‘The University has done a lot to make me feel welcome,’ said Professor Annegret Stark, at UKZN from Leipzig in Germany to take up the Research Chair of Sugarcane Biorefinery at the Sugar Milling Research Institute. ‘My experience has been good so far,’ said Stark.
