ENACTUS Membership Drive Edgewood

Representatives of ENACTUS, an international organisation that connects student, academic and business leaders through entrepreneurial-based projects, went on a membership drive on the Edgewood campus.

UKZN-ENACTUS member and Education student, Mr Phakamani Dlamini, said the organisation catered for all students. ‘Education students mostly work with communities and learners, so by joining, the students are able to motivate and even encourage high school learners to make sound career choices and to have hope for the future.’

Dlamini said the network consisted of committed students and business leaders. ‘Surrounding yourself with these people is the best way to grow as an individual. On campus, new members will work with and learn from outstanding students and companies. More importantly, they will have a new group of friends and countless social events to attend.’

‘They will also develop a bond with the new member class immediately as they all go on a new member retreat together. Friendships developed become incredibly close and that is what also makes the experience so rewarding.

‘To become a member, a candidate must fill in the necessary forms after attending a formal presentation. Interviews are scheduled for those who make the cut and meet the necessary requirements, and full membership is thereafter granted to successful students,’ said Dlamini.

‘Every member of ENACTUS has the opportunity to gain the professional skills needed to succeed after graduation. The professional development begins through a mentorship programme and numerous workshops and training sessions.  ENACTUS provides all the resources needed.

‘As a longstanding member, I’ve reached the position of being a Research and Project Developer, ensuring projects we are involved in are of a high standard and also comply with judging criteria.’

Dlamini believes that being a member of the organisation is not about the benefits but rather about empowering communities. ‘What you receive comes after what you have given. There are a lot of responsibilities and requirements that come with being a member but the opportunities are unlimited.’
