
Criminology and Forensic Studies Short Courses for Police Officers
Short courses in Criminology and Forensic Studies are envisaged to being developed and offered at UKZN for police officers.
This follows concerns about shortcomings in police services in various areas of KwaZulu-Natal.
UKZN’s Professor Shanta Balgobind Singh met with officials from the South African Police Services and the Durban Metro Police Service to discuss the introduction of the short courses at UKZN for police officials.
Singh liaised with Senior Superintendent E von Bargen and Mr Chris Overall of the Durban Metro Police to discuss the application of specific aspects of criminal investigation in order to develop courses police officers could take.
It was felt this would benefit both police officials and the community in the fight against crime.
SAPS and the Metro Police often work together to combat crime.
