UKZN’s International Office Celebrates Diversity Through Sport
UKZN’s International Office hosted the Edgewood Campus Sports Day aimed at promoting diversity and respect for different cultures through sport.
About 300 students participated from countries including South Africa, Nigeria, Rwanda, Swaziland, Lesotho, Cameroon, Zimbabwe, Mozambique, Uganda, Ghana, Malawi and Congo.
The International Relations Office’s Ms Valenshia Jagessar said the highlight of the day was the camaraderie among students and the fun walk. ‘This was an excellent way of building successful relationships. The atmosphere at the Sports day was amazing,’ said Jagessar.
Activities included:
- Edgewood local football stars vs international football stars
- Edgewood local Netball stars vs international netball stars
- Edgewood local volleyball stars vs international volleyball stars
- Edgewood local Tug of War stars vs international Tug of War stars
- Edgewood local students, international students and staff - Aerobic session
- Egg and sack race - Mixed teams
Jagessar acknowledged the Sports Co-ordinator at Edgewood campus, Mr Zweli Sapula, who worked tirelessly to get sponsorship for the event, as well as all those who attended and helped make the event a success.
The day was hosted by the Sports Union and the SRC, in collaboration with the International Students Office.
