Education Students Interact with Employers
Final year Post Graduate Certificate in Education and Bachelor of Education students attended an information session on the Edgewood campus where they were given an opportunity to meet and interact with their future employers.
Representatives from the National and Provincial Department of Basic Education, Fundza Lushaka Bursary and officials from the SACE advised students on processes that need to be followed when applying for advertised vacancies.
Students under the Fundza Lushaka programme were asked to wait for the Department to place them in their schools. They were all promised positions by 11 December.
A representative from Department of Basic Education spoke about the benefits of being employed by the Department which included medical aid, an annual bonus, membership of the pension fund, and annual leave.
Employees could also qualify for a housing allowance of R1 200 a month and for bursaries to further their studies.
The Department of Basic Education is the largest employer of teachers in the country.
