UKZN Administration Building Named after Former Vice-Chancellor
The Administration Building on UKZN's Westville campus has been named the MW Makgoba Administration Building after the immediate past Principal and Vice-Chancellor of the University, Professor Malegapuru Makgoba.
The plaque was unveiled recently by Professor Makgoba.
Former Chair of Council, Dr Phumla Mnganga said at the unveiling ceremony that the official naming of the building was a culmination of a process that began in 2004. Mnganga said this was the most appropriate form of farewell and acknowledgement for Makgoba’s contribution and legacy at the University.
‘You (Makgoba) left this University a better place that you found it,’ she said.
Vice-Chancellor, Dr Albert van Jaarsveld, assured Makgoba that he would always have a home at the University. He thanked him for setting a solid foundation in the past ten years for everyone to work on.
In his response, Makgoba thanked the University for the decision and also the people involved in the process of renaming the building. He said it was a great honour to be unveiling the plaque on the building while he was still alive.
