Students Hear About Making Wise Money choices during Financial Planning Seminar
Students got expert advice about how to efficiently manage their personal finances during a presentation delivered by inspirational educator, speaker and Managing Director of the Africa Trust Academy, Mr Sandras Phiri.
The Lecture, organised by Sanlam and the College of Law and Management Studies Teaching and Learning Unit, provided BCom four students with financial education to assist them with budgeting to make their money go further
Phiri spoke on the psychology of money, how to budget and the importance of planning ahead.
‘Today I would like to encourage you to start planning your life and to make those plans measurable. Think of why you need this qualification and what job you want - once you have figured that out the rest will sort itself out,’ said Phiri.
To encourage the students to never give up on their dreams and career no matter what life throws at them, Phiri shared his life story about his father passing away when he was in Grade 11, followed by his mother while he was writing his Grade 12 final exams.
‘I grew up in rural areas of Zambia and when my parents died, I couldn’t afford to go to university but I was fortunate to get a government scholarship that paid for half of my fees. It was tough but I had goals which I was determined to reach.
‘Always ensure that life doesn’t get in the way of your dreams,’ he said.
The College’s Dean of Teaching and Learning, Professor Kriben Pillay, said he was proud of the students and their performance and was looking forward to them achieving a pass rate of 80% and higher!
