The International Community Culture (ICC) in partnership with UKZN’s International Office recently held talks about the cultural, political and economic situation in Zimbabwe and South-Korea.
ICC Secretary General, Mr Joël Yondo, reminded the audience that culture was of great significance but, against the background of xenophobic attacks in KwaZulu-Natal earlier this year, warned against being a ‘prisoner of your own culture’.
Yondo emphasised unity and said: ‘We are not African because we are born in Africa but because Africa is born in our hearts.’
Business Administration student Mr Minkyu Park of South-Korea told the audience about the education system and the cultural and political state in his country while
Mr Kudzai Mukaratiwa of Zimbabwe spoke on the how his country had maintained a 91% high literacy rate in spite of all its problems.
Speaking on the economic struggle in Zimbabwe, Mr Prisley Machiya said people there were always looking for innovative ways to create their own income.
