UKZN Prestige Sports Scholarship Winner Living Her Dreams!

Sports enthusiast Ms Sphumelele Gumede, studying towards a Bachelor of Arts in Philosophy Politics and Law, has been awarded a UKZN Prestige Sports Scholarship.

UKZN’s Prestige Sports Scholarship is awarded for outstanding achievement in sports at international, national or provincial levels.

Currently in her second year, Gumede says her desire to attend UKZN started in high school and she realised her goal - in line with her long history of setting challenges for herself and being successful.

Gumede hopes to become a national rugby player in the near future which she says will demand good time management so she can balance career goals with academic pursuits.

She is inspired by her fellow rugby team members who have successfully achieved exciting careers under similar circumstances as hers.

Having faced many challenges along the way, she advised her peers to pursue their passions, even if they don’t have everything figured out yet.

She thanked her parents and coaches for their unwavering support and encouragement, lauding the ability of the University to see potential in its students.
