Accounting Students Excel at UKZN Accounts 300 Event
The School of Accounting, Economics and Finance in partnership with accounting firm Ernst and Young held its 4th annual gala dinner awards ceremony in Pietermaritzburg recently.
The event, organised by Accounts 300 Lecturer and Chartered Accountant, Mrs Navitha Sewpersadh, offered aspirant chartered accountants insight into the profession, and recognised top achievers and rewarded their excellence with cash prizes sponsored by EY.
Final year Bachelor of Commerce Accounting students delivered their award winning project presentations they had researched during the June/July vacation.
Sewpersadh said she was impressed by the quality of presentations delivered by her Accounting students.
‘The technical skills that were demonstrated were very impressive and illustrated the intensity of their research. The creativity used to convey accounting principles in a manner that was both entertaining and informative to the panel of judges was remarkable. The class of 2014 certainly set the benchmark for the 2015 Accounts 300 students,’ said Mrs Sewpersadh.
Student group, IAS Sugar, demonstrated excellence in both their oral presentations and in the bound report they compiled on the JSE - listed company, Illovo Sugar Ltd, winning R6 000 for the best presentation and R2 000 for the best written report.
Second prize of R4 000 went to Vision Honours 2015 for their analysis of Anglo America, while third prize of R3 000 was won by Account-a-holics for their analysis of Tiger Brands.
