Lecture Explores Dynamics of Business Industry
Young upcoming Entrepreneur and Project Consultant Mr Krineshin Reddy from KDC Traders addressed UKZN Management and Entrepreneurship students on the practical aspects of starting and managing a successful business.
Reddy who has worked on successful projects such as COP 17, the Business Fair and the sustainable energy projects Phillips is promoting in South Africa and Africa, spoke about the importance of branding and marketing in a company.
‘Being an entrepreneur is all about customers and you need to be ready for a bumpy ride as each company brings different dynamics,’ said Reddy.
‘Therefore it is important to know what is happening in the company and the tools you need to use to become successful. That is why it is vital for you as students to learn about what happens in the industry from us practitioners as opposed to relying on the theory you learn from textbooks as they are two different things.’
The Entrepreneurship, Innovation and New Venture Creation module is taught by Dr Vannie Naidoo in the School of Management, Information Technology and Governance. Naidoo explained that the rationale behind the lectures is getting industry experts to come and speak to the students is to create a link between the business sector and academia which will result in mentorship and career development opportunities.
‘Guest lectures create an opportunity for students to network with business practitioners and find out about the opportunities available to them when they graduate. As academics our role is to ensure that students get a well-rounded education and that involves us exposing them to the business world so they know what is expected of them when they become part of the corporate sector,’ she said.
