Paper by UKZN Alumnus Wins Award at International Conference
Graduate School of Business and Leadership graduate Ms Claudia Ariatti’s peer reviewed paper titled: “Agriculture and Local Economic Development: A Case Study of uMshwathi Municipality”, is an award winner!
Ariatti received the best case study award in the Local Economic Development stream at the Fifth Value Conference hosted by the University of Johannesburg’s Faculty of Economic and Financial Sciences.
Ariatti’s peer reviewed paper, compiled from the findings of her MBA dissertation supervised by Dr Mihalis Chasomeris, is a case study built on a theoretical framework confirming the significant role of agriculture to accelerate Local Economic Development (LED) in uMshwathi in the uMgungundlovu District of KwaZulu-Natal.
Ariatti, who was the only delegate representing UKZN at the gathering, said the Conference provided a research platform encouraging a cross fertilisation of ideas.
‘I was honoured and delighted by the recognition the work received and have been encouraged to consider further study on the topic.’
Chasomeris said it was a pleasure to co-author the paper with Ariatti and he was delighted to hear of her award. ‘The study is relevant and makes a worthy contribution to LED research.’
