Dr Admire Shayanowako, a postdoctoral researcher at UKZN’s African Centre for Crop Improvement working under the supervision of Professors Mark Laing and Hussein Shimelis, received a MAIZE Innovator Youth Award from the CGIAR Research Program on Maize (MAIZE) at a ceremony in Lusaka, Zambia held as part of the Stress Tolerant Maize for Africa (STMA) project meeting.

The 26th Alan Paton Lecture was presented by Dr Sibongiseni Mkhize and Professor Jill E Kelly at the Colin Webb Hall on the Pietermaritzburg campus on 2 May. Mkhize’s lecture was titled: Service, Sacrifice and Social Justice on the road to the new South Africa, while Kelly’s topic was Chief by the People: Inkosi Mhlabunzima Maphumulo and the Search for Security during the Transition to Democracy in South Africa.
