UKZN Vice-Chancellor, Dr Albert van Jaarsveld congratulates Distinguished Student Award recipient Mr Sizwe Sidaza.Mr Sizwe Sidaza, a Bachelor of Arts Honours (International Relations) student is the proud recipient of the prestigious UKZN Distinguished Student award. The award recognises and rewards students for outstanding academic achievement coupled with excellence in community engagement.
College of Humanities Deputy Vice-Chancellor’s Scholarship recipients are Ms Paula Anne Clyde, Ms Mia Hordyk and Ms Theshira Pather. Three undergraduate students from the College of Humanities are over the moon after receiving this year’s coveted College Deputy Vice-Chancellor’s Scholarship. They are Ms Theshira Pather, Ms Mia Hordyk and Ms Paula Anne Clyde.

Postgraduate students Ms Thembelihle Luthuli (left) and Ms Itumeleng Manoko were awarded the Talent Equity and Excellence Acceleration Scholarship.Faced with financial constraints Ms Itumeleng Manoko, an Honours student in Psychology, considered quitting. That is all in the past now, as she is one of two students from the College of Humanities who were awarded the Talent Excellence and Equity Acceleration Scholarship.
Mr Nduduzo Kubeka, Ms Cindy Schoeman, Ms Shaneece Chanderpaul, Mr Gavin Drinn and Ms Nadine Naicker (far right) have each received the prestigious Malegapuru William Makgoba scholarship.Five deserving students from the College of Humanities - Ms Shaneece Chanderpaul, Mr Gavin Drinn, Mr Nduduzo Kubeka, Ms Nadine Naicker and Ms Cindy Schoeman- have been awarded the prestigious Malegapuru William Makgoba scholarship.
Mr Lindokuhle Ngcobo, a recipient of the Hugh Africa Scholarship. Hardworking Bachelor of Education student Mr Lindokuhle Ngcobo, relied on his grandmother’s pension for survival but that is about to change. Thanks to the prestigious Hugh Africa Scholarship, which is awarded annually to a top new entrant choosing to study Education at UKZN. Ngcobo, will now be able to afford his University fees.
Mr Pakama Plaatjies (right) is a recipient of the UKZN 100th Anniversary Scholarship.‘The scholarship means an improvement of our living conditions as a family, since it brings a marginally significant financial injection. This means we can afford to pay for accommodation in Pietermaritzburg for my study purposes for 2017,’- these were the words of Theology student Mr Pakama Plaatjies.
Recipient of Archbishop Denis Hurley Scholarship Mr Andrew Francis Akpan. Arts student Mr Andrew Francis Akpan, a Nigerian national, took a chance by coming to study at the University of KwaZulu-Natal knowing that he did not have enough funds to cover his tuition. He says this is probably the bravest decision he has ever taken.
