Clinical Anatomy Academic Awarded UCDP Mobility Grant

Clinical Anatomy Academic Awarded UCDP Mobility Grant
Dr Pamela Pillay who was awarded a UCDP Mobility Grant.

Dr Pamela Pillay, UKZN academic in the School of Laboratory Medicine and Medical Sciences, Clinical Anatomist and Developing Research, Innovation, Localisation and Leadership in South Africa (DRILL) Fellow was recently awarded the University Capacity Development programme (UCDP) Mobility Grant to visit the prestigious Mayo Clinic in the United States. The grant is awarded to emerging academics as part of the University capacity development.

This provided an opportunity to establish teaching and research collaboration between Mayo Clinic and UKZN with the possibility of also exploring a long-term exchange programme. During her visit, she received mentorship from Professor Nirusha Lachman on methods of anatomy teaching and publishing for impact (which was one of her intended outcomes of this mobility).

“This grant has enhanced my personal development and growth, my academic thinking and expanded my research opportunities with hopes of internationalising anatomy education at UKZN.

As an academic representative of South Africa, this opportunity sets the precedent for future academics in anatomy encouraging national and international collaboration. All networking done during this mobility will be used strategically to improve quality of Anatomy education and research at UKZN,’ said Pillay excitedly.

Pillay is currently busy with her DRILL postdoctoral research in health research ethics.
