Students were given the opportunity to put career questions to representatives of a variety of different companies and organisations, including the Department of Labour and Allan Gray investments.

Department of Labour representative, Ms Tholeka Dukada, said: ‘Being part of UKZN’s Careers Day gives us the opportunity to interact with students and give them information they need regarding career opportunities and the employment services programme we offer.’

Said Allan Gray’s Ms Tasheen Shaikh: ‘The event gives us the chance to tell students about our company and career opportunities. We are definitely coming back next year to meet more future employees.’

Bachelor of Social Sciences student Ms Sembatho Mbatha said the event was helpful. ‘I benefited a lot from the day. For next year’s event, Student Support Services should invite more companies.’

Development Studies student, Mr Sandile Zondi, said: ‘I spoke to different companies about career opportunities and learned a lot.’

Manager of Student Support Services, Ms Angeline Stephens, said: ‘Networking is an essential and important component of graduate marketability and career pathing. The annual Humanities Careers exhibitions on the Howard College and PMB campuses provide students with the opportunity to meet and interact with potential employers from various sectors. It is an exciting and an important calendar event for all stakeholders and I am glad that students found the event beneficial.’
