UKZN lays Solid Foundation for Summa Cum Laude Sport Scientist
Mr Alexander McKerrow, who graduated from UKZN’s Bachelor of Sport Science programme summa cum laude, is now pursuing his honours degree in Biokinetics at the University of Cape Town.
The 26-year-old from Umdloti on KwaZulu-Natal’s North Coast said he was proud of his achievement. ‘It really feels great.’
‘After completing a personal trainer’s qualification, I decided to concentrate on biokinetics which required doing an undergraduate degree in Sport Science.
‘I suffered several sports injuries in the past which resulted in me interacting with various health professionals and developing a passion for exercise rehabilitation. ‘My drive stems from the fulfillment I get from trying to be the best I can be. I am also driven by other people who motivate me and social interactions.’
McKerrow was invited to become a member of the Golden International Honour Society and also mentored UKZN first-year Sport Science students in 2013.
He said after completing his honours year he plans to do an internship before hopefully registering as a qualified biokineticist.
‘I have moved to Cape Town and at this stage I intend to stay here,’ he said.
