USolwazi Suna Kassier woMkhakha we-Dietetics and Human Nutrition e-UKZN uchaze indima edlalwa ukukhuluphala kubhubhane i-COVID-19, weluleka abantu abasemgonqweni ukuthi bangadangali, bagade nengozi yokukhuluphala.

I-National Institute of Communicable Diseases yaseNingizimu Afrika yagcwalisa ukuthi kukhona owokuqala owayesetheleleke nge-COVID-19 ezweni mhla zi-5 kuNdasa, emva kosuku lokulwa nokukhuluphala emhlabeni i-World Obesity Day. U-Kassier uphawule ukuthi kuningi okufanayo ngobhubhane olusha nokukhuluphala kunaloko okwaziwayo.

‘Kokubili ukukhuluphala ne-COVID-19 kuthathwa njengezifo, ngaphezu kokuthathwa njengobhubhane oluhlasele emhlabeni,’ kusho yena. 'Ukukhuluphala kuqala ukubonakala njengento enkulu ekuthelelekeni ngegciwane, kanti loku kubonakala kulabo abangaphansi kweminyaka engama-60.’

U-Kassier uchaze wathi ukukhuluphala kuhambisana nobungozi obukhulu bokuba nezifo ezingathelelelani njengoshukela i-Type 2, inhliziyo, inhliziyo eshaya ngamandla, uhlangothi, nesifuba. ‘Njengoba izwe ligxila kwimpilo yasemadolobheni nabantu sebemandla ekudleni ukudla okusheshayo okugcwele amafutha, usawoti, noshukela, nokunomsoco omncane wamavithamini namaminerali, kuyanda ukukhuluphala.’

Njengoba isikhathi somgonqo sivale ithuba lokunyakazisa umzimba, okuyinto esizayo ukunciphisa amazinga okudangala nawexhala nokwenza inhliziyo ishaye ngendlela efanele nomuntu angakhuluphali kakhulu, uKassier uphakamise izinto eziningi umuntu angazenza ukunyakazisa umzimba.

U-Kassier ubalule izinto ezithembisayo ebantwini baseNingizimu Afrika njengokuthi umgomo wesifo sofuba i-Bacillus Calmette Guerin, okugonywa ngawo izingane zaseNingizimu Afrika uma zizalwa, ungawasiza amasosha omzimba kwi-COVID-19 ngokunciphisa izinga lokuxineka kwamaphaphu.
